| La importancia de las redes locales Ethernet ha crecido de forma sustancial desde su aparición, debido a que es un medio de comunicación que comparte recursos y aplicaciones de manera económica y eficiente, siendo considerada una de las mejores alternativas para redes de datos de área local. La necesidad de tener acceso a este tipo de redes desde áreas remotas va en aumento, forzando a las compañías a moverse en esta dirección. Tradicionalmente esto ha sido resuelto utilizando las líneas telefónicas; sin embargo, la demanda de más y mejores servicios ha sobrepasado la capacidad de esta opción. De aquí, el interés por realizar el estudio inherente de acceso a estas redes utilizando la infraestructura de televisión por cable (CATV). El efecto inmediato al interconectar una red Ethernet a una red e CATV es, el de incrementar su longitud y que a su vez incrementa el retardo de propagación en el medio, factor importante en el desempeño de Ethernet. En este trabajo se analiza la incidencia que se tiene sobre el desempeño de un sistema Ethernet vía CATV. Específicamente se analiza el comportamiento del protocolo de acceso CSM/ACD al llevarlo a través del sistema CATV, así mismo se describirán las modificaciones a este mecanismo de acceso y a la infraestructura de red CATV, que sean necesarias para mantener las prestaciones que ofrece en general Ethernet. Complementariamente se estudia el estado del arte de trabajos que se están efectuando para permitir servicios interactivos a nivel metropolitano utilizando el sistema de televisión por cable. The importance of local area networks like Ethernet has grown strongly recently. It is communication media transport that shares resources and applications an economical and efficient manner, and is considered one of the best alternative for local area data networks. The necessity of having access to Ethernet networks from remote places is growing continuosly, forcing the companies to move in this direction Traditionally this has been resolved utilizing Public telephone lines; however, the demands for more and better services (that need more bandwidth) have surpassed the capacity of this options. From here, the interest by carrying out the study of access Ethernet networks using infrastructures that offers more bandwidth like community antenna television (CATV) systems. The immediate effect upon interconnecting Ethernet and CATV networks, is the longitude increment in the Ethernet LAN affecting the Ethernet network performance, and the propagation time delay. In this work the performance of a Ethernet network using CATV is analyzed. Specifically the behavior of the medium access Protocol CSMA/CD transported through the CATV system, also modifications to this mechanism of access and to the infrastructure of CATV will be proposed. In addition this work included the study of networks allowing the transport of interactive services utilizing CATV systems, also the state of art in this technology, and international standard are included. | |
